ASU PhD candidate Michael Jung talks about his experiences as a writer and a student at ASU, the Wizard of OZ, and dressing up as Spider Man.
- Biography:
Michael Jung received his BA in English Education and his MA in Literature from ASU, and is currently pursuing his PhD in 20th Century American Literature. His research focuses on children's literature, popular culture, comics, and reception studies. For his dissertation, he is examining reader response studies concerning the Wizard of Oz, in order to analyze the work's popularity over the decades. He tries to deconstruct how people derive pleasure from texts, how people interpret what they read, and how they become interested in a text. He will graduate in May 2008.
